1571374800 Live Music Rondo Hatton Bee Nice Music October 18, 2019 October 18, 2019 7:00 PM 9:00 PM Bee Nice Music Presents Rondo Hatton Friday, 10/18/19 Celebrating Chuck Berry’s 93rd Birthday 7 to 9 p.m. Chuck Berry was the father of Rock ‘n’ Roll, and it all started with “Maybellene,” the first true Rock ‘n’ Roll song. Every garage band that ever existed played “Memphis.” It may have been the first song your father (or grandfather) ever played on guitar. John Ramistella left Baton Rouge and became “Johnny Rivers” riding on the shoulders of “Memphis.” The Beatles loved Chuck Berry, and covered his songs, including “Roll over Beethoven” and 9 others. Keith Richards says he stole every lick Chuck Berry ever played. Of course, everybody who was anybody covered “Johnny B. Goode, ” including Elvis. Rondo Hatton will be playing your favorite Chuck Berry songs, and probably some you had no idea he wrote. Did you know he wrote “Route 66”? Asleep at the Wheel has made a good living on that song for 43 years. As always, there is no cover charge, but we do pass the hat for the band. 100% of the contributions go to the band. Bring a lawn chair. Bring whatever you want to eat or drink (alcohol is ok). Capital Heights Neighborhood Association will be selling hot dogs at the show, with 100% of the proceeds going to CHNA. This will be the final Bee Nice Music show, as we are working our way into retirement, and moving to Pensacola. It's bittersweet, but Penni and I have had a good time hosting Bee Nice since that first show on June 26, 2015. We discussed the possibility, and I decided to call the few people I knew then that played music and ask their opinion of the idea. My question was going to be "If we set up a PA in the yard, would you play for passing the hat?" The first person I called was Steve Judice, and the conversation went like this: "If we set up a PA in the yard, would you playYES." That was the response of everyone, and I learned that there are many very talented musicians/singers/songwriters in Baton Rouge, with too few places to play. I also learned that playing their music for people is more important than pay. We also learned what great neighbors we have here in Capital Heights. The attendance and generosity of our friends is astounding. Thank you all for supporting live music in Baton Rouge. If anyone wishes to continue this labor of love, bring your checkbook and come see us. No smoking

About Venue

Bee Nice Music is a concert series put on by Dave Mooney and Penni Guidry in the the coolest backyard in Baton Rouge.

Bee Nice Music Baton Rouge is a local music concert series put on by Dave Mooney and Penni Guidry in their funky and eclectic backyard in Baton Rouge.

The venue is a covered porch in front of a vintage travel trailer in Penni and Dave's backyard on Capital Heights Ave. The yard is strung with lights from tree to tree, giving it a warm, cozy ambiance. According to blues legend, Larry Garner, it's "the coolest back yard in Baton Rouge."

Bee Nice Music came about because he loves live music and she loves to dance. Neither of them drink or enjoy smoky barrooms, and they would both prefer to be asleep by the time most live music starts in Baton Rouge. Also, they enjoy sharing their unique back yard with friends and neighbors.

Dave called several musicians and asked the question: "if I built a stage, set up a PA system, and invited the neighbors, would you play for passing the hat?" They all said "yes."

We also asked the Capital Heights Neighborhood Association president, Tyler Hicks, if CHNA would like to use the concerts as fund raisers. CHNA grills hot dogs for sale each concert to raise funds for the beautification of the neighborhood.

We are not a business, and we do not charge admission. Between acts and near the end of the night, we pass the hat to collect donations for the artists. All funds collected go to the artists at the end of each night.

No funds go to Bee Nice Music, Dave Mooney or Penni Guidry.

Because the neighbors are so appreciative of the music and generous to the artists, we're able to attract people like Larry Garner, a world traveling blues man from Baton Rouge, Yvette Landry, a Grammy nominated singer songwriter from Breaux Bridge, and Steve "Juice" Judice a Baton Rouge singer/songwriter who has been making a name for himself in the Texas Country music scene for several years now.

All shows are scheduled on Friday nights during late Spring through May, then start back September 1, usually from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Bring your chairs, ice chests with the beverage of your choice (alcohol is ok). Bring your children and your grandmothers, as these are G rated family friendly shows. Bring money for the musicians and for hot dogs.

Bee Nice Music has three rules:
No Smoking
No Pets
