March 3: Welcome, Spring! - This class invites participants to welcome spring by painting a bouquet of colorful flowers in a personalized (artistic freedom!) vase. Complementing the freshly painted bouquets will be wine, cheese and sweet treats.
April 21: April Showers - Have you ever walked through a warm spring rain with no particular destination? This class hopes to invoke that feeling with a lovely painted image of walking through the rain under softly glowing lights. Wine and charcuterie will be served.

Try your skill scaling our rock climbing wall. Learn to identify different rocks and minerals and make your own take-home identification card on our Treasure Trail. Experience the excitement of the gold rush while hunting for iron pyrite in our Gold Mine. Try out some rockin’ crafts or paint your own Rock Animal in our craft corner. Explore ancient life forms in the Fossil Quarry. This is one rockin’ day of fun highlighting geology and earth science. Pass discounts are available.

Laisse les bon temps rouler, marcher, courir! We are bringing Mardi Gras flair to BREC Adaptive's annual Roll, Walk, Run this year in honor of Developmental Disability Awareness Month. The Mardi Gras Fun Run is open to everyone regardless of your ability. The Developmental Disability awareness color is yellow - we encourage plenty of purple and green but go all out with moving in whatever way you can!
?? Looking for somewhere to put all of those Mardi Gras beads you caught this year? Bring them out to the event and we will recycle them for you!

Saturday Morning Studio is drawing outside the lines this spring! Each month BREC Art participants will be introduced to an art that relies on creativity instead of artistic skill. While still exercising the basics of art, we will work with unusual mediums and be introduced to new types of art that students may not have much experience with. Join us each month for out-the-box thinking, treats, and creative expression as we learn fun and different ways to “be an artist.”

April 1: Let’s Get Muddy! - Saturday Morning Studios is moving to BREC’s Drusilla Lane Park’s Clay Studio this month! Students will learn about the art of ceramics, practice hand-building skills, as well as basic wheel-throwing techniques. What a fun way to get muddy! (Glazing is not part of this workshop and class is limited to 6 students.)

As a young girl in Kenya, Wangari was taught to respect nature. She grew up loving the land, plants, and animals that surrounded her. Although most Kenyan girls were not educated, Wangari, curious and hardworking, was allowed to go to school. There, her mind sprouted like a seed. She excelled at science and went on to study in the United States. After returning home, Wangari blazed a trail across Kenya, using her knowledge and compassion to promote the rights of her countrywomen and to help save the land, one tree at a time. Let’s celebrate Wangari by learning more about her and painting an African-inspired landscape of her beloved Kenya.

Join BREC, AARP and CADAV for an Art Walk on the Scotlandville Parkway. BREC has installed new public art installations that showcase unique art pieces focusing on the role Southern University has played in the Scotlandville Community.
The Art Walk will be the debut of five locations with the newly installed public art work, from Bradley to Brashears St. The art walk stops, which were created in partnership with Southern Universities John B, Cade Library and Archives, along with parkway wayfinding and map signage have been possible through the AARP Community Challenge Grant.
