On Sunday, April 21, Baton Rouge Gallery is delighted to host a performance and conversation with Clay Parker and Jodi James. As with all Sundays@4 performances, this will be free and open to the public.
Clay Parker and Jodi James have their own brand of genre-blending sonic storytelling. Before their artistic paths converged, Parker and James roamed the musical landscape as lone troubadours, each nurturing their own raw and genuine sound. The result of this musical marriage is a blackout bingo card of Americana.
Their album, “Your Very Own Dream" released this January, is at once plaintive folk and antique country, a breezy Hawaiian daydream- a bonfire ballad. Their lyrical riddles and haunting melodies have captivated audiences all across the country - they’ve run their share of rocky roads, collecting stories like souvenirs. Just as at home on stage at The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival as they are in the most intimate of listening rooms, Parker and James can adjust their dynamic to fit the occasion. Fans of Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris will find a similar spell cast by Parker and James whose heady baritone and crystal bell tones Rolling Stone Magazine aptly described as “mesmerizing back porch music.”

Clay Parker and Jodi James, both already established artists in their own right, have been fostering a new and assured voice as a duo. This new direction combines elements of traditional roots music and soulful harmonies delivered with the sincerity found in the early folk singer-songwriter movement. Independently, Parker and James have been solid staples in the Baton Rouge music scene, but their musical collaboration didn't begin until the fall of 2014 when they wrote their first twelve songs together over the course of two weeks while located in different states. They've since worked relentlessly refining themselves as a duo and continue to tour the U. S. in support of their debut EP Clay Parker and Jodi James.
