About Band

The members of Thick and Thin, Trey Kelly from Slidell and Jeff Gibson from New Orleans, met in the late 80’s while in the Army. After graduating Officer Candidate School in 1989, the two young Lieutenants were stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma to complete their Army training. It was in these dilapidated army barracks that they began to experiment with their acoustic stylings. Having similar musical backgrounds, the two found a dynamic reciprocity in their song writing and their simple love of “kicking back and jamming.” In 1991, Trey and Jeff enrolled at SLU and began playing as “Thick and Thin” around Hammond. After graduation, they both went their separate ways; Trey to Law School at LSU, and Jeff into the working world of corporate sales. In the years that followed, the two moved in different directions with their talents; Trey became one of founding members of wildly popular The Molly Ringwalds, and Jeff, the front-man of an alternative rock band called DaSupa. Despite all the time that passed, the two remained friends. In 2014, Thick and Thin reunited to jam at an Endymion party. The impromptu gig rekindled the special musical connection they shared back in the ‘90s. It’s funny; while these guys are two very different people, there is an unspoken, almost spirit-like kinship that bonds them together and they inspire one another. Like the Yen and the Yang, they are Thick and Thin.
